Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior representative said the incident made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
